Three Algoverse students—Abhay Gupta, Philip Meng, and Ece Yurtseven—have earned acceptance to the NeurIPS High School Track 2024. They were selected as 1 of 20 spotlight projects out of 335 total submissions, an approximately 5% acceptance rate.
Their research project, titled "AAVENUE: Detecting LLM Biases on NLU Tasks in AAVE via a Novel Benchmark," develops evaluation methods for language model biases with specific focus on African American Vernacular English. The work addresses fairness concerns in artificial intelligence systems.
The students previously received acceptance to NLP4PI at EMNLP earlier in September. This dual acceptance to two major international conferences represents an extraordinary achievement for undergraduate and high school students.
